The Grade 9s at Rimbey Christian School reached an important milestone in their lives last week when they celebrated their graduation into senior high.

The seven graduates were recognized at a special ceremony held June 19 at the Rimbey Nazarene Church.

In her opening remarks, teacher Sherilyn Semenyna said the graduation theme, “My Hope is in You” is a reminder to all of us that our life’s purpose, meaning and future belongs to God. We are His creation, and it is in Him that we find our strength and ultimately, eternal life.”

As the students move on to a new chapter of their life, I pray that they would continue to acknowledge that there is rest, peace, life and hope in Christ alone,” she said.

Semenyna went on to single out each of the students, noting that each one of them had special gifts and talents and were a pleasure to teach.

“This day is always a hard, but exciting day for me,” she said. “On one hand, I am always excited for the students, as they are about to begin a new adventure in their lives — one that will bring them a lot of excitement, new opportunities, challenges and maybe some nervousness.”

Semenyna said the students themselves, have helped her learn many things about herself and her teaching career.

“It is obvious that each student has amazing gifts and each one is growing into an amazing teenager. It is because of them that I have been so blessed as a teacher and I feel very proud to call them ‘my kids.’

Valedictorian Caitlin Buist said her years at Rimbey Christian School has allowed her to grow academically and spiritually.

“Rimbey Christian School has equipped us with the knowledge we need and a strong faith that will help us to move on to the next part of our journey.”

In her speech, Buist talked about the Bible verse the class had studied this year, “Find rest, oh my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”

“This verse tells us that we should not be afraid because God has things in His hand and it shows us that He has hope and a plan for us. God will be our guide, if we have faith in him, we can always find hope in him. Nothing should make us falter.”

Buist also acknowledged each of her fellow classmates.

“Lyric brought many smiles and lots of kindness into our class. And there was Doug who has been a good friend and always there if I did not understand something. Martina and I have been great friends for a very long time. She is very funny and she is able to show her great artistic ability through her work. Randy has a great sense of humor and is very competitive. Lastly, there is Trevor who is humorous, friendly and almost as smart as me.’

Buist also acknowledged her teachers, Mrs. Klooster, Ms. Dolman, Mr. Tebay, Mrs. Nieuwenhuis, Mr. Payson and Miss Semenyna.

“Not only have the teachers helped us succeed to get where we are today, but also the educational assistants have helped us with our work and have encouraged us along the way. They are a valuable asset to the school.”

During her presentation, Buist thanked the parents, as well, for their love and support and for giving herself and her classmates the opportunity to attend Rimbey Christian School.
