The VJV Rimbey Auction Market’s new manager has taken what he is calling a big step up in the auction market world with this new position.

Wes Skeels took the position Aug. 1. “(It’s) a steep learning curve.”

Skeels worked with the Ponoka VJV Auction Market on and off since 2001 until the company was taken over by Morris andHenry Thalen on Aug. 1 2014.

Skeels says the Rimbey Auction Mart was bought May 1 2015.

“I was a sorter over there,” said Skeels, referring to the Ponoka auction. He explains further he worked in most of the yard divisions in one capacity or another but the manager’s job is completely new for him.

“They came and offered me the job,” said Skeels. “I thought I wouldn’t mind working for them. I’ve heard good things about them.”

Skeels says the job offer surprised him and was quite out of the blue.

When the opportunity came along Skeels really did not hesitate, as he has a passion for the industry. “I just like the beef industry and working with farmers and the whole agricultural part of it.”
