TREENA MIELKE/Rimbey Review

A former Rimbey resident, on tour throughout Alberta with his rock band Silvergun & Spleen to promote their new album, Through My Skeleton, is excited the group will make a stop at The Vault on June 18.

“We really want to put on an amazing show for Rimbey to thank everyone for supporting us. It’s probably the show on the tour I am looking forward to the most. I wanna see everyone dancing, even the cows at the auction mart,” said John Lenherr, who plays drums for the rock group.

Coming home for a visit will be great, he said.

“I lived in Rimbey my entire life and moved out east to Ottawa about six years ago to pursue music. It will be awesome to come home and see everyone.”

Lenherr is proud of his band, noting the group has made great strides since it was formed in the spring of 2005.

Lenherr said the musicians worked hard practicing in schools and basements every night to improve their music.

“It was really important to us to have something real and something with substance to present.”

Alex Prud’Homme, the band’s bass player, joined in the summer of 2009. Prior to that Silvergun & Spleen consisted of Lenherr and vocalists/guitarists Marie-Eve Mallet and Veronique Mallet.

After a few months of practice as a group, the band started writing their own songs. After spending a week at a remote cabin where they diligently worked on their music, they created the song Kiss & Tell, which became a radio single.

After enjoying success with their single and also their new found popularity when they became part of the Vans Warped Tour, the band was given $5,000 by a NewCap radio station, Live 88.5 FM, to record their debut seven track EP, Through My Skeleton.

The band’s single, Kiss & Tell is now playing on radio stations such as ZED 99 FM and 106.7 FM The Drive in Red Deer, X92 FM in Calgary, Live 88.5 FM in Ottawa and on radio stations throughout New Brunswick and Quebec.

Lenherr said he is very proud of the album.

“We are really proud of this EP, we put everything into it and we can’t wait to finally be able to share it with our fans. Through My Skeleton is probably the most honest thing I have done.”

As well as The Vault, Silvergun & Spleen will play in Red Deer at The Vat and in Slave Lake at Roland Michener High School and The Ridge.

They also will perform in Edmonton and Calgary.
