Bentley has new mayor

New Bentley council ready to begin term

Greg Rathjen is the new mayor of Bentley.

Rathjen, who received 208 votes, defeated incumbent mayor Lynda Haarstad Petten, who captured 159 votes.

Rathjen is excited about his new role, noting he is anxious to get rolling on signs for the town’s access.

Rathjen, who spent six years as a Bentley councillor, is looking forward to getting organized in his new role and keeping the town a safe and pleasant community.

Cora E Knutson, the only incumbent successful in returning to council received 163 votes.

She is looking forward to the four-year term.

“I think it’s going to be great. They are all honest and sincere fellows.”

Other new council members for Bentley are Lloyd Harris Carefoot who received 246 votes, Neil Maki who captured 242 votes and Doug Talsma who grabbed 166.

Also running was Basil Wayne (Butch) Howard with 151 votes and Richard (Rick) Lee Garries with 161 votes.

Bentley CAO Elizabeth Smart said voter turnout was about 45 per cent with 372 ballots cast.
