It’s been a long, cold winter, but it’s over now and to mark the start of a new season, the Rimbey Aquatic Centre is open for business.

The pool and waterslide opened on the long weekend, and despite the below normal temperatures, a few hardy souls braved the wind and rain to take a dip in Rimbey’s very own outdoor swimming pool.

Cindy Bowie, director of community services for Rimbey said the pool was closed for a few days last week, but opened again on Friday and, barring any unforeseen difficulties, will be open for regular hours during May and June.

Two assistant pool managers have been hired for the season.

Hayley Lush, an experienced senior lifeguard, who has worked at the pool previously will be responsible for opening the pool during the week and also teach Red Cross swimming lessons.

Mark Hawkings, a graduate from Rimbey High School, who is also a lifeguard, will look after staff scheduling and will work mostly evenings and weekends.

The splash park and hot tubs are not yet open and the hiring process for lifeguards is not yet completed.
