Bentley post office broken into Sylvan Lake RCMP respond

Const. Steve Kumar said the RCMP responded to a call about a break in at the post office at about 5 a.m. on Feb. 17.

When June Norvila stopped to get her mail last Wednesday she discovered a note on the door of the post office saying it was closed until repairs were done.

She said there was an officer on site and suspected the post office had been broken into.

A call to Sylvan Lake RCMP confirmed Norvila’s suspicions were correct.

Const. Steve Kumar said the RCMP responded to a call about a break in at the post office at about 5 a.m. on Feb. 17.

“The front door had been broken into and they gained access to the back.”

The thieves were able to simply take the mail out of the boxes, he said.

RCMP are still investigating the break in.

The post office in Rimbey was also broken into recently and several mailboxes were pried open.

Mail theft is an ongoing problem throughout the area and RCMP encourage anyone who notices any unusual activity happening around rural mail boxes or post offices to notify the RCMP at once.
