Politically minded citizens of Rimbey who want to win a seat on council had until June 4 at noon to hand in their nomination papers.

Politically minded citizens of Rimbey who want to win a seat on council had until June 4 at noon to hand in their nomination papers.

Following the deadline to file, candidates have 24 hours to withdraw their name, said the Town of Rimbey’s executive secretary, Melissa Beebe.

Provided there is more than one person who hands in nomination papers, a byelection would be called for July 9 with an advance poll to be held July 4.

As of May 31 two people had picked up nomination papers.

The vacancy on council was created when former councilor Joe Anglin was elected as MLA for the Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre riding.
