A concerned citizen phoned in a driver asleep at the wheel and parked in the middle of the highway. Police attended and suspected that the sleeping driver was impaired by alcohol. This vigilant citizen is the same one who helped us, and the Breton RCMP locate another impaired driver earlier this month. This week’s impaired driver experienced Alberta’s new provincial sanctions in regards to alcohol and drug impairment while behind the wheel. The punishments are just as harsh as ever with immediate license suspensions and vehicle seizures that have a deep effect on offender’s wallets and future driving privileges.

One vehicle was reported stolen from the Rimbey area this week, and it was later located in Sylvan Lake however, the Miller Bobcat Welder, within a black square tube frame was missing. Of interest, the vehicle was stolen from a rural location, and its theft was made easy as keys where left in it. It is important to reduce ones vulnerability to property crime and this can be achieved through very basic steps such as locking vehicles and keeping valuables out of sight.

Earlier this week in the early morning police responded to a hit and run in town, where a suspect vehicle hit a parked vehicle then took off. Initial investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle was metallic silver likely a pickup truck or higher vehicle. Damage sustained would be to the driver side headlight and driver side of the suspect vehicle. Speculation at this time is that the suspect driver was impaired by alcohol.
