The Dixon family was in the southbound SUV. One child was pronounced dead at the scene and the second child, who was critically injured, succumbed to injuries at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

The parents and one child remain in hospital, said Const. Carmon Dutz from Rimbey RCMP.

He noted the section of the highway where the accident occurred was “terribly icy”.
