Buck Lakeshore Inn was reduced to rubble in a matter of hours Sunday, despite firemen’s attempts to save the building.

The fire was called into 9-1-1 March 23 after an occupant noticed flames, said Mike Zajac, director of emergency services for the County of Wetaskiwin.

“It went relatively fast,” he said. “The wood was fairly dry.”

Everyone was evacuated safely from the two-storey building which was built in the ‘30s, he said.

“There were no injuries.”

Fire departments from Alder Flats, South Pigeon Lake, Winfield and Breton fought the blaze for about four hours.

“Firemen remained on the scene to put out hotspots,” said Zajac.

The inn, located at 302 Lakeshore Drive, also had a tavern.
