This week, Rimbey RCMP detachment responded to 42 calls for service. These included a robbery, assault, 2 break and enters, criminal harassment, fraud, and 7 theft related files, among other occurrences.

Of note, two of the reported theft files are thefts from community mailboxes. Historically police have seen significantly higher amounts of theft from mail boxes around this time of year.

A 35 year-old male from the Rimbey area was charged with break and enter, criminal harassment, mischief and three counts of failing to comply with a peace bond this week regarding a domestic violence investigation. He was released from custody after agreeing to restrictive release conditions before a justice of the peace.

On April 12, police responded to a report that a young woman allegedly assaulted her boyfriend with an edged weapon. This investigation is ongoing. Later than evening, regarding an unrelated matter, police received a child custody complaint and a comprehensive investigation was completed. On April 14, police received a report of a robbery, where keys for a vehicle where taken by force, then the vehicle was stolen from Rimbey. The vehicle was later located in Ponoka, and the owner sent a friend to collect the vehicle, however, this friend never returned the vehicle, and i was once again reported stolen. A great deal of resources where expended on this “stolen” vehicle, yet those involved, who are well known to police and involved in property crime, have been less that cooperative.
