A group of good hearted people from Rimbey who were willing to shed their locks for a good cause got together last Saturday night to let some local hairdressers do the job.

Jan Lucas, along with Jessie Schneider, Tasha Brace, Allan Hunt and Miranda Davidson had their hair cut to raise funds for two local organizations. Local hairdressers Lana, Jacey, Char and Michelle donated their time to wield their scissors.

The event which included a silent auction, held at The Vault in Rimbey last Saturday evening, raised $6,775.

The funds raised will go to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Rimbey and the Rimbey Boys and Girls program. The hair will be donated for wigs for cancer patients.

“I’m thankful for the whole community,” said Lucas. “Everyone was so generous. It went really well.”

The group passed around pledge sheets a few weeks prior to the event.

Jessie Schneider ended up joining the group after she requested people vote ‘yes or no’ when she asked if she should participate in the fundraiser. The vote resulted in enough ‘yes’ votes to prompt her to take part.

As well as the hair-cutting event, $2,415 was raised through a silent auction.

Lucas said businesses in town donated willingly for the silent auction.

The Vault donated $1 proceeds for every drink sold throughout the day of the fundraiser. The band, Tap 9 entertained throughout the event.

Lucas recalled organizing a similar fundraises 10 years ago when $11,700 was raised for the Make a Wish Foundation.

“Remember, it takes a whole village to raise a child,” she said.
