Voting for municipal elections ongoing today

As of 11 a.m. on Oct. 16, 175 ballots had been cast at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre.

Mayor Rick Pankiw said 102 voters took advantage of the advanced polls held at the community centre last Thursday and 117 showed up at Parkland Manor on Saturday.

Pankiw said there are approximately 1,700 eligible voters in Rimbey.

Candidates for Rimbey town council are incumbents Brian Godlonton, Jack Webb, Paul Payson, Mathew Jaycox and newcomers Gayle Rondeel (former councillor), Bill Coulthard, Bernie Bast and Lana Curle. Chuck Hendricks announced he wished to withdraw after the candidates’ forum, but his name is still on the ballots.

Polls will close at 8 p.m. tonight.

In Bentley advanced polls on Saturday drew around 53 voters and close t0 200 have dropped by the polls today.

In Bentley former councillor Greg Rathjen and incumbent Lynda Haarstad Petten are running for mayor. Running for town council are incumbent Richard Lee Garries, Doug Talsma, incumbent Cora E. Knutson, Lloyd Harris Carefoot, Neil Maki and incumbent Basil Wayne Howard.

For Ponoka County in Division 5 incumbent Nancy Hartford faces off against Jason Valstar.

School trustees in the running for Rimbey, Bluffton and Crestomere are incumbent Trudy Bratland and Gwen Olsen.
