BELL
Bernice Claire Bell (nee Simmons) of Rimbey passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Area Two on Friday, January 29, 2016 at the age of 87 years.
Bernice worked for many years for Alberta Transportation as a cook for bridge building crews around Central Alberta, and later for Husky Oil as a camp cook north of Slave Lake. Some may also remember her as a trained hairdresser working from her home in Eckville. Bernice was always an active member of her community; as a young wife, with the Mountview Ladies Club and Leedale Curling Club; and in her senior years, with the Eckville Chapter of the Royal Canadian Legion. She shared her love of camping and the outdoors with her grandchildren. Always a capable host in her home, family and visitors were treated to home-cooked meals and maybe a crib game or two. Bernice will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her.
Mourning Bernice's loss are her three loving daughters: Jocelynn Bell (Greg Pedersen); Carlynn (Ian) Ratcliffe; and Audrey Bell and their families. She leaves behind eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren; her sister, Jody Ramsay (Bob); and her brother, Carl; as well as several nieces and nephews, numerous other relatives, and many cherished friends. Bernice was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Thomas Simmons; her first husband, Donald J. Bell; her long-time companion, Stuart Reitsma; and an infant son, Rodney.
A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Bernice's Life was held at the Leedale Community Hall, Leedale on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. Interment will be held at a later date in the Bradshaw Cemetery.
