Candace Anne (Auger) Laing

"A Tribute to Candace written by her mother Dalice Auger"

Dear Candace Anne (Auger) Laing,

In your passing you are leaving a very large void in your family, you will be forever loved and forever missed.

You were born on March 20, 1973 in Edmonton to your proud parents John W. Auger and Dalice Jane (Coughlin) Auger. Right from birth you were beautiful, and full of life. We lived in Edmonton until 1978, then we moved to Rainbow Lake for a year, then on to Alix where you started school in 1979. The teachers adored you and always told me you were a model student. 1984 took the family to Cold Lake where you excelled in sports and won numerous awards for your triumphs, also breaking records in track and field. You were also named female athlete of the year. Here you also showed your independence by getting a steady babysitting job to earn your own money.

In 1989 we moved to Ponoka where I (Dalice) was born and raised, so it seemed nice that you attended my old school. Here again you excelled in sports from basketball to slow pitch, got a job, fell in love, and graduated with your sister Bobbi in 1992.

March 26, 1993 brought you and John Browne a daughter, Curstin Bobbi Lynne, one of the happiest days of your life I’m sure, as it was a happy day for your dad and me.

Although things didn't work out for you and John you went on to be swept off your feet by Douglas Laing. You remained at your job at Super Foods for 7 years, all the while being a devoted mother, loving daughter, sister and wife. You were a hard worker, and I’m sure the best friend anyone could ask for. Doug and you married November 9, 1996, and you looked so happy and beautiful.

March 21, 1997 you and Doug brought Courtney Rebecca into the world, another happy day for you. Then again as you welcomed Cyle on March 30, 2002 - March was a good month for you I'm thinking.

Then moving closer to Ponoka and Doug's family business you ventured out to get a new job for yourself at the Alberta Hospital where again you made great friends. In your short life you've travelled and seen much, been there for whomever needed you.

Then began the battle with thymic cancer in 2010. You went through the chemo and radiation like a champ, and we prayed for a cure. With broken hearts we all watched as the cancer took you from us. So it is with great sadness we, your family announce your passing on May 8, 2012.

Candace was predeceased by her uncle Darwin (Kenny) Coughlin (1981), paternal grandfather James Waniandy (2000) and maternal grandfather Robert Coughlin (2007).

She leaves to mourn her loss her loving husband Douglas Laing; daughters Curstin Bobbi Lynn and Courtney Rebecca and son Cyle Douglas; parents John and Dalice Auger; sister Bobbi Lynne Auger (Gale Porochnavy) and brother Shayne and Shaun Auger; niece Chloe Auger; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and her maternal grandmother Alice Coughlin and paternal grandmother Lena Hall.

A memorial service was held for Candace on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at her home to celebrate her life.
