ADCOCK

Eliza Jane (Jean)

It is with sadness, the family of Jean Adcock; announce the passing of their mother, at the Ponoka Northcott Care Centre on May 27, 2011. She was born on May 22, 1923 at Lacombe, Alberta. Jean was the first born of the pioneer family of Jim and Violet (Heath) Spink. She grew up on the family farm in the Lincoln District and here, met and married Glen Adcock on June 29, 1938. They continued to work and live on the Spink farm until 1943 when they purchased and moved to their own homestead in the Meadow- brook district, becoming pioneers in that area. Jean took on the responsibility of helping her dad with the care of her four siblings after the sudden passing of her mother in 1941. At that time her youngest sibling was 2 years, 8 months. Jean's daughter was 2 years, 3 months and her son 6 weeks old. Jean and Glen's 3rd child was born while living in the Lincoln district but the following seven children were born while living in the Meadowbrook district. Jean and Glen raised ten children on the family farm, not leaving the place she loved until ill health of both her husband of 69 years and her own required them to move to facilities to better meet their needs. We feel mom excelled in many things. We loved her as a mother, and loved her cooking skills. We remember our home smelling of baking and especially of fresh made bread. Her grandchildren remark on her homemade cookies that were always available on visits. Jean loved her vegetable garden and her flowers and when she found some spare time she loved to sew, first to cloth the family but in later years did other projects and quilts. She also loved to knit, crochet, and embroider as well as many other crafts, first for her family and later the local craft stores in Lacombe and Ponoka. Jean leaves to mourn her 10 children, Marie (Barry) Warne of Peace River, Chuck (Carol) Adcock of Ponoka, Violet (Eric) Darrach of Red Deer, Bob (Connie) Adcock of Ponoka, Miles (Fay) Adcock of Lacombe, Margaret (Neale) Ronald of Clive, Wade (Kathy) Adcock of Ponoka, Kim Adcock of Ponoka, Linda Rendle of Trochu and Sandy (Norma) Adcock of Onoway; 33 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren and her sister Shirley (Rod) Seeger of Calgary, AB. She was predeceased by her husband Glen Adcock, granddaughter Sandra Lynn Warne, great-grandson Neil Brian Warne, grandson Kwin Robert Adcock, sister Ellen Glen, brothers Ron Spink and Sandy Spink. Funeral Services, in celebration of her life, will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Forest Home Cemetery. If friends desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Ponoka Northcott Care Centre, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
