Gary Ellis Riley


Mr. Gary Ellis Riley passed away suddenly on December 1, 2011 at the age of 75 years. Gary will be lovingly remembered by his soul mate Marg Martin, his children Lyall (Cathy), Koreen, Bruce (Brenda), Kelvin (Debbie) and Brent. Also left to cherish their memories of Gary are his beloved grandchildren Kevin, Matthew, Charlotte, Katie, Stacey, Lynnsey, Chelsey (Sean), Bradley (Allie) and Breann as well as his very special great-granddaughters Sloane and Megan. Gary shared his love with Cahill, Hayley and their mother Lisa. He is survived by his brother Keith (Nettie), several nieces, nephews and the mother of his children Joan Glass. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Roger. Gary was born in Bentley, Alberta in 1936 to parents Ellis and Ruth Riley and he became a third generation farmer on land in the Meadowbrook district which had been purchased by his grandfather Francis Riley in 1901 and he was proud when his son Kelvin received the Alberta Century Farm and Ranch Award. Later on in life he turned to oil and water hauling throughout Alberta. With his love of Arabian horses he was involved with the Parkland Arabian Horse Association, serving as a Director and then as President. Marg shared his love of travel which took them on many trips to all parts of the world including Australia, Asia, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, and Europe as well as throughout Canada and the USA. Cruising was a passion and on their last cruise in 2010 he received a medallion for cruising over 100 days. 'Peace to you on your final voyage Gary'. A celebration of Gary's life will be held between 1:00 and 3:00 P.M. on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Wilson's Funeral Chapel, 6120 Hwy 2A, Lacombe, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lacombe Palliative Care Society, Box 5576, Lacombe, AB T4L 1X2.
