Mr. James “Lester” Gladwin of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer on Friday, August 10, 2007 at the age of 90 years.

Lester was born on March 17, 1917 in Kitscoty, Alberta to Aletta and Lewis Gladwin. He was a tinsmith by trade, and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. In 1945, Lester moved to the Forshee District and began farming. Following his retirement, he enjoyed many interesting hobbies such as; rock hounding, fishing, traveling, stone and wood carving, and wood burning, to name a few. Lester was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion for a number of years.

will still live on in our hearts.”

Lester leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years, Minnie; and he was a loving father to his children, Alannah (Norm) Ronnie of Redwater, Alberta; Elvin (Connie) Gladwin of Bentley; Jack (Robbie) Gladwin, also of Bentley; and Joanne (Allison) Wright of Belize, Central America. Lester was also a cherished grandfather to his 12 grandchildren, and his 21 great grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brother, Grant Gladwin of Devon; as well as many cousins and other extended family members. Lester was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Patricia Gladwin; and two brothers, Lee and Cecil Gladwin.

A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Lester’s Life was held at the Rimbey Church of the Nazarene, Rimbey on Monday, August 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dave MacMillan officiating. Cremation took place in Red Deer, Alberta. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Lester’s Memory may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #6, 5015 – 48 Street, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 1S9; or to the Royal Canadian Legion, Rimbey Branch No. 36, Box 508, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0.
