LEVERS
Jean Levers of Rimbey, formerly of Breton, Alberta passed away in her sleep at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Rimbey on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the age of 86 years.
Jean was born to Norman and Marie Matthews on the Gee's farm in Ponoka on September 19, 1924. She grew up on a farm at Fern Creek, Alberta which was a small hamlet nine miles east of Breton with little there but a small post office. Jean moved to Breton in 1941, and worked in the Breton Post Office and at the Alsike Store and Post Office. She also worked at the grocery and hardware stores in Breton, and at the hardware store in Drayton Valley. Jean also enjoyed circulating her wares at the Farmer's Markets in the Breton, Hinton, Edson, Eckville, Sundre, Rocky Mountain House and Rimbey areas, and was well-known as the "sock lady". Jean spent much time actively volunteering at the reton Hospital where she sat with patients and helped with the hospital canteen. She also enjoyed helping out with Meals on Wheels, and would make quilts for fire victims and the Red Cross. Jean moved to Rimbey in 1992, and she continued her passion for making quilts with the residents of the Kansas Ridge Apartments. She considered Rimbey a very friendly place to call home.
Jean will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her son, Donald Levers of Sacramento, California; her daughter, Gloria Gairdner of Ponoka; as well as her granddaughter, Jenette (Geary) Kwong of Elk Grove, California and their two children, Amber and Chase. She will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sister, Verna Wahl of Edmonton; two sisters-in-law, Vi Matthews of Leduc; and Joyce Campion of Edmonton; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Gordon in May of 2002.
With respect for Jean's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer.
