SMITHSON


Kenneth A. Smithson of Rimbey, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the age of 84 years.

Ken was born in Calgary on April 24, 1932 and moved with his family to Springdale, Alberta in 1936. He lived and worked his entire life in the Rimbey area. Prior to retiring to Rimbey, Ken restored 19 International Trucks which are currently on display at the Rimbey Truck Museum. He spent several years rebuilding and using antique sawmills with his good friend, Sam Kenney. In his later years, Ken loved to spend the winter months on the lake ice fishing, and the summer months mowing the grass and golfing at the family campsite.

Ken will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his beloved wife, Pheobe; three daughters: Judy Dennis of Bluffton; June (Robert) Ogilvie of Fort Nelson, B.C.; and Peggy (Paul) Taylor of Bluffton; four stepsons: Raymond Kenney of Red Deer; William 'Bill' (Connie) Kenney of Gull Lake; Dewain (Penny) Kenney of Rimbey; and David (Lynda) Kenney also of Rimbey; and two stepdaughters: Doreen (Ken) Ladouceur of New Sarepta, Alberta; and Hazel (Murray) Kowalzik of Monarch, Alberta; in addition to twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and ten great, great grandchildren. Ken will also be lovingly remembered by two brothers: Lloyd Smithson; and Ron Smithson, both of Rimbey; and one sister, Hazel Parker also of Rimbey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Randolph and Ivy Smithson; two infant sons; his stepdaughter, Mary Ann Halbert; his grandson, Roger Dennis; his son-in-law, Lee Dennis; his brother, Ted Smithson; and his sister, Gladys Jorgensen.

With respect for Ken's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Ken's Memory may be made directly to the charity of one's choice.
