PEDERSEN

Mrs. Leola Diane Pedersen of Rimbey, Alberta passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Rimbey in the early hours of Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the age of 81 years.

Diane, as she was known, grew up just north of Valleyview, Alberta in the community of New Fish Creek. She was the youngest of the girls in a family of seven. Diane was united in marriage to Lawrence Clifford Pedersen of Govenlock, Saskatchewan on July 1, 1949. She always said that Canada Day was in recognition and celebration of her wedding day, and had nothing to do with the Constitution Act! Diane was a gifted gardener of both the vegetable and the flower kind. Also, her great love for all animals was evident in her raising a suckling moose calf that had wandered weak and malnourished into their yard one June morning. Diane's passion for God, for music, and for farming made her a hard-working woman of faith. Wherever boys are being raised there will be prayer, it's a natural order. Diane could make balsam airplanes for son #2, whip out a slingshot for son #1, and show son #3 how to gather eggs without getting pecked! Then on Sunday, she would get dressed up and carry herself with such poise. Her wit and humour brought smiles to a great many faces. Before Lawrence's passing, Diane and Lawrence played music and sang in many senior's homes and music nights throughout Alberta. She was also an active participant in Campers for Christ and the Christian Cowboy's Association. Diane's three sons, their spouses, her grandchildren and great grandchildren made for a noisy, happy house at family gatherings. She will be greatly missed by her cherished family and by many people across the province.

Diane will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sons, Clifford (Gloria) Pedersen of Three Hills; Hugh (Gwen) Pedersen of La Crête, Alberta; and Gene Pedersen of Thorhild, Alberta; as well as eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law, Pat Pedersen of Thorhild. She will also be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her four siblings, George, Charles, Mickey and Wilfred; in addition to many nieces and nephews. Diane was predeceased by her parents, Mabel and Charles Gunn; her beloved husband, Lawrence in 2008; her brother, Hugh; and her sister, Nellie.

A Public Funeral Service celebrating 81 years of sharing Diane's Life was held at the Rimbey Church of the Nazarene, Rimbey on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dave MacMillan officiating. Interment followed in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Diane's Memory may be made directly to Haying in the 30's Cancer Support Society, Box 35, Mallaig, Alberta T0A 2K0.
