HUSHAGEN
July 22, 1923 - April 1, 2012
Margaret Lorna Pamala Hushagen (nee Buxton) of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully, with family members by her side, at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at the age of 88 years.
Lorna was born and raised a Saskatchewan girl. She met and was later united in marriage to Alton (Al) Hushagen. This union was blessed with five children all born in Saskatchewan before moving to Lacombe in 1960. The family then relocated to Rimbey in 1967, where Lorna took up her new career working in hospital administration. She was a testament to the notion that learning is life-long. Mom recognized the value of an education and figured it was never too late to pursue it. In her late forties, she enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan, where through hard work and family sacrifices she graduated with a Certificate in Hospital Administration. Mom also possessed more talents than we knew of after discovering an amazing unfinished painting tucked under the bed ~ we then realized that Mom was an artist! She was an avid member of the Rimbey Art Club for years ~ toting her camera, brushes (and Al) around the West Country for many years! Mom and Dad also loved to travel and they fell in love with cruise lines, where neither had a care in the world. Mom continued her cruising career, and on her 80th birthday she went through the inside passage to Alaska with her daughters. Mom loved her family and always wished she could spend more time with them ... we wish there was more time too ...
Lorna leaves to mourn her passing her five children: John (Sandy) of Murray River, Prince Edward Island; Jim (Ann) of Mississauga, Ontario; Robin of Port Coquitlam, B.C.; Holly of Edmonton; and Tannis (Robert) of Cochrane; as well as her grandchildren: Nina, Christopher, Renee, Scott, Amanda, Kevin, Jeremy, Montana and Mariah; and great grandchildren: Kyra, Nathan, Aidan, Hannah, Lucas, Jacob and Dakota. Lorna was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Alton (Al); and her grandsons, Lyndon and Thomas.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre for the compassionate care Lorna received the last several months, particularly for the gentle care she was blessed with in her last days. They would also like to express their thanks to her community (you know who you are) for looking out for Lorna and being good friends. She cared for you all.
With respect for Lorna's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer.
