KORZENOWSKI, Marion Marlene nee Rachuk

July 1, 1933 – July 28, 2017

Marlene passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 28 in Slave Lake, Alberta after a lengthy battle with cancer. Marlene was fiercely independent and faced life’s joys with wonder and it’s adversities with tenacity. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother as well as business woman and a wonderful cook & baker who always provided fresh made, grown or preserved food for her family, friends and neighbours. Marlene loved her gardening and took great pride in her flowers which many enjoyed and admired. Her bold sense of humour which we all enjoyed earned her the nic name “GGK the Legend” which suited her to a T.

Marlene was predeceased by her husband Rick, her father John and mother Anne as well as her brothers Jim, Don, sister Elaine and grandson Drew Baird. She is survived by her brother Maurice Rachuk, son Craig (Debbie), daughter Connie (Doug) Baird, son Darwin, her six grandchildren Melanie (Mark), Ryan (Stacey), Bryce (Pat), Lyndsay (Brent), Caton, Darcie (Damian) as well as 8 great grands and 2 great great grands. Mom is also leaving behind her dear friend Tony and many other friends made during her time spent in Gilbert Plains, Flin Flon and Virden, MB as well as Slave Lake, Alix and Red Deer AB.

Marlene’s family would like to thank the medical staff at the Slave Lake Hospital Emergency Dept. and the support staff at the Vanderwell Seniors Lodge in Slave Lake for the excellent care and compassion provided to mom “The Legend” over her last few months.

A memorial tea and celebration of her life will be held in the Town of Alix at the Community Center on Sept. 9th between the hours of 2:00-4:30.

In lieu of flowers and or gifts of kindness, donations can be made to the Alberta Cancer Society in mom’s name.
