COUGHLIN

Mr. Robert “Bob” Terrence Coughlin of Bluffton, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at the age of 80 years.

Bob was born in Killam, Alberta on April 6, 1927. He was the youngest of two sons and the seventh child born to Mahlon and Ina Coughlin. Bob grew up and took his schooling in Lougheed, Alberta. He joined the Army in 1945, and also played AAA baseball for the Edmonton Dodgers in the late 1940’s, until he met Alice Louise Andersen of Ponoka in 1947. They were united in marriage in Ponoka on October 18, 1948. Bob and Alice lived in various towns from Fort McMurray to Vancouver, as Bob was a pipe-fitter by trade. They finally settled in Bluffton in 1970, and Bob retired in 1984. He also enjoyed many hobbies; hunting, curling, baseball, fishing and the horse races were among them. Later in his life, not too much kept him off the ice from fishing!

Left to cherish Bob’s memory is his beloved wife of 58 years, Alice; his four sons, Dwight (Roxanne) Coughlin of Rimbey; Doug (Desiree) Coughlin of Kamloops, B.C.; Darrell (Kathi) Coughlin of High River; and Dean (Deb) Coughlin of Lethbridge; and his seven daughters, Dalice (Johnny) Auger of Fort McMurray; Delores (Rosaire) Simoneau of Lethbridge; Doreen (Myles) Schmalz of Rimbey; Debbie-Lou (Sven) Sorensen of Alix; Dawn Salomons (Sherry Reid) of St. Albert; Dolly (Jeff) Deringer of Lethbridge; and Dodi (Quentin) Farnham of Bentley; as well as 35 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Bob will also be lovingly remembered by one brother, Mahlon Coughlin of Ohio; three sisters, Lila Newman of Vancouver, B.C.; Angie (Bill) Richardson of Whitehorse, Yukon; and Ina (John) Acomb of New Mexico; two brothers-in-law, Bernie (Ivy) Spelrem of Ponoka; and Claire (Marie) Andersen of Red Deer; and three sisters-in-law, Bernice Wilkonson (George Tripp); Evelyn Spelrem; and Helen Spelrem, all of Ponoka; in addition to many other relatives and friends. Bob was predeceased by his son, Darwin (Kenny) Coughlin in 1981; and three sisters, Vesta Cookson, Eva McLellan, and Enid Tweedy.

With respect for Bob’s wishes, no formal funeral service will take place. A Family Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date. Cremation took place in Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences to the Family may be expressed by e-mail to: special_reflections@telusplanet.net
