GLASEL, Rodney Gerhardt

January 3, 1936 - February 1, 2014


Rodney passed away at home early in the morning of February 1st, 2014 with his family all around him. He was 78 years. Rod Glasel was born on January 3 1936 in Pendryl, Alberta. He grew up on his parents farm in Pendryl and attended Pendryl and Winfield schools. He faced many challenges as a young child enduring numerous operations on his eyes and being away from home for extended periods of time. At the age of 17 he hitchhiked to Calgary with his guitar and $20 in his pocket to find work. He began working on a ranch and then spent a number of years working to set up camps, driving trucks, building houses and then spent a number of years managing All Type Rentals in Drayton Valley. On April 27th 1973 Rodney married Mary Walters. They spent 30 years in Drayton valley and then moved to Stony Plain and have recently settled in Lacombe. Rodney was a very creative person who loved playing music, carpentry, remodelling old cars and repairing small engines. He was huge Blue Jays fan and spent much of his retirement on his big chair watching baseball, when he wasn't at an auction sale. Rodney is survived by Mary his wife of 40 years his children; Roland (Angela), Randy (Melissa), Angela (Trevor) and Michael (Kara). Rod was also blessed by 8 grandchildren; Julianna, Kylin, Sawyer, Corgin, Elayna, Benjamin, Isaac, and Samson. Rodney is also survived by his Sister, Ruth, Brothers; Ernest and Art and numerous nieces and nephews. Rodney was predeceased by his Mother Hulda, Father Jacob, Step Father Gus, Sisters; Leokadia and Irma, and Brother Albert. Funeral Services will be held at the Buck Lake Community Hall on Thursday, February 6th, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. Rodney will be laid to rest in the Maywood Cemetery.
