1923 ~ 2011
Mr. Thomas “Tom” Holland of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre ~ Area Two on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the age of 87 years.
Tom was born on November 28, 1923 at South Shields, Jarrow, England. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1924, when he was only six months old. The family settled in the Condor area on the present homestead, north and east of Leslieville. Tom worked mainly on the farm in the summer months, and worked in bush camps in the winter. He also worked for a few people in and around the Leslieville area for a few years. Tom resided mostly on the family farm until failing health relocated him to the Lodge at Winfield in 2001. He then moved into Rimbey Long Term Care in 2007, where he resided until his passing. Tom had a passion for hunting, fishing, and working the farm land. He also loved every one of his animals; cows, chickens, ducks, cats and dogs.
Tom will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his one brother, Kenneth (Vivian) of Rimbey; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Thomas; as well as four sisters, Mary, Lillian, Elizabeth, and Daisy.
Relatives and friends were invited to a time of fellowship and refreshments at a Memorial Luncheon in Tom’s Honour, which was held at the Leslieville Community Hall, Leslieville on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer.
