Rimbey U-14 girls soccer team enjoyed a great year, earning a spot in provincials at the qualifying tournament held in Lacombe June 24 and 25.

“We lost in the final to Sylvan Lake 1- 0, but we still qualified to go to provincials in Beaumont so that was good,” said coach Joy Hohn.

The girls competed in provincials held July 6 to 8, finishing ninth out of 12 teams.

Hohn said the team played well and gave each game their best, but ran into some bad luck along the way. Goalie Tori Madu sprained her knee, putting her on the injured list. Also, hot temperatures caused energy to flag during Saturday’s games.

Rimbey came back in the final game against the host team, Beaumont, winning the shootout, and defeating Beaumont 6-5.

“They were really excited,” said Hohn. “It was a good way to end the season.”

The head coach noted seven players out of 15 were under 12 years of age on the U14 team.

“Next year they will be older and the team will be looking even better,” he said
