Steven Lush, a long-time employee of Wolf Creek Public Schools, who has been a teacher and athletic director at Bentley School since 2009, is moving up the educational ladder.

Effective at the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year, Lush will take over as the assistant principal of the kindergarten to Grade 12 Bentley School.

Lush, who has an impressive track record as a teacher, winning several awards and introducing new programs that have proved to be excellent learning experiences for his students, is excited about his new position.

“I am very excited about becoming the assistant principal at Bentley School,” he said. “Bentley School is an amazing place and I love working with the staff, students and community. I also feel that this position is a great opportunity to refine my leadership skills.”

Lush began his teaching career in 1997 at Fox Creek Elementary and Secondary School. He joined Wolf Creek Public Schools in 2000, spending nine years teaching and serving as athletic director at Eckville Junior Senior High School.

Lush, who consistently demonstrates enthusiasm and a positive attitude to his students, was the recipient of the Health and Physical Education Council Award for Outstanding Service in Physical Education. In 1993 and 1996 he was the winner of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employee Award.

Lush is the first fully certified teacher in Canada to receive the credential of Master Athletic Administrator.

In 2004 he was nominated for the physical education teacher of the year award.

His skill and dedication to his career has not gone unnoticed and he is highly regarded at the division, provincial and national levels.

“Stephen has a proven track record of initiating and building programs to enhance learning opportunities and has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to his school and community,” said Jaysen Lovell, assistant superintendent of Wolf Creek Public Schools. “I have every confidence he will be successful in his new role.”

Lush is married to Marsha and the couple has three children, Hayley, Ian and Andrew.

When he is not with his students, he enjoys reading, working out, playing soccer, hockey and baseball. He is also a firefighter on the Bentley Fire Department.

Lush replaces Ian McLaren who has taken over as principal at Eckville Elementary School as vice-principal.
