Bentley nominated for honour as Hockeyville

It’s all about the pride and passion for hockey, community spirit, and the area working together as a team.

Once again Bentley has been nominated for Kraft Hockeyville and is in need of as many submissions from the public as possible.

This year there is an added incentive to get those submissions entered. Four prizes have been donated. They include two $25 gift certificates from the Cross-Eyed Giraffe Cafe, a youth gift basket valued at $50 from the Bentley General Store, and a Bushnell Onix GPS unit valued at approximately $100.

More public input has been garnered in events showing why Bentley should become Kraft Hockeyville.

Non-perishable food items are being collected in boxes placed at the Bentley arena during the entire month of January. Everyone coming into the arena, whether for a practice, a game, skate time, or to cheer at a Generals game, is encouraged to bring an item and see how much can be collected. It will help show the great usage and support of the arena as well as help replenish the local Blessing Pantry (food bank) that has become depleted over the Christmas season.

This year, for the first time, the school is offering a Hockey Academy program and is making much more usage of the arena for that program. To help in Bentley’s bid to become Hockeyville 2011 some school students are creating a “Bentley for Hockeyville” banner to hang in the arena.

Those who don’t have access to a computer can contact Pam Hansen at the Bentley General Store or Angel Hand at 403-748-3322 to get help entering their submission. Those under 13 years of age need parental or guardian consent.

The top prize is a $100,000 arena upgrade, a CBC Hockey Night in Canada broadcast from the community and possibly a pre-season NHL exhibition game. The Bentley arena has already been checked out to see if it could accommodate such a game. Secondary prizes for the other top four are $25,000 dedicated to an arena upgrade and a CBC Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.

Submission deadline to the CBC Kraft Hockeyville contest is Jan. 30. More than one story with up to three pictures each can be contributed per person as long as each story is different.

Go to www.CBC.ca Kraft Hockeyville to see what is posted already and get full details. Enter your stories and photos, get your name entered for the free local draws, and help show the rest of Canada what hockey and the local arena mean to the Bentley community.
