Bentley vying to be Hockeyville

By June Norvila

Once again Bentley is vying for the title of Hockeyville.

As of Dec. 29 there were 29 communities registered in Alberta, with 14 eligible, including Bentley, Blackfalds, Bowden and Springbrook.

Supporters can add their stories and photos demonstrating hometown pride in support of Bentley's bid by going to communities listed on the Internet under Kraft Hockeyville.

Submissions will be accepted until Jan. 18 so it is important to get stories and pictures entered soon. Bentley Community Services will assist with submissions if you want help. Call 403-748-2160.

Along with the title and trophy, the winning community gets $100,000 for an arena upgrade, an NHL pre-season game and a CBC Hockey Night in Canada broadcast from the community.

The four runners-up get $25,000 from Kraft Canada for an arena upgrade and a CBC Hockey Night in Canada visit.

Any amount to help with a Bentley arena upgrade would be wonderful.

For the past four years Kraft Canada, the CBC, the NHL and the NHLPA (National Hockey League Player's Association) have sponsored the competition from coast to coast.

After March 15 audience voting starts for the top 12 communities selected by an in-house panel from all nominations received.
