May was a busy month for our club members. Not only were we getting our cattle “show” ready, we had our Team-Grooming/Judging Day (with the other three clubs – East Lacombe Multi, Central Lacombe, Nebraska Multi) and Highway Clean-up. Our 4-H Female Show was held on May 11th in Lacombe. The results for yearling females were as follows: Club Grand Champion female – Morgan Anderson Club Reserve Grand Champion female – Hayley Bickford Club Junior Showmanship – Justin Bickford Club Intermediate Showmanship – Hayley Bickford Club Senior Showmanship – Morgan Anderson Inter-club Reserve Grand Champion female – Morgan Anderson Miriam DenOudsten showed the only two year-old cow/calf project for our club. May 12th was the Steer Show & Sale with the following results: Club Grand Champion Steer – Alyssa Wilson Club Reserve Grand Champion Steer – Morgan Anderson Club Junior Showmanship 1st – Tyson Hueppelsheuser Club Junior Showmanship 2nd – Montana Millar Club Intermediate Showmanship 1st – Alyssa Wilson Club Intermediate Showmanship 2nd – Kolton Hueppelsheuser Club Senior Showmanship 1st – Morgan Anderson Club Senior Showmanship 2nd – Miriam DenOudsten Best Club Rate of gain was won by Kevin Wilson’s steer “Stewie”, who had an average daily gain of 3.02 pounds. In second place for Club Rate of gain was Alyssa Wilson’s steer “Tantalizer”, whose average daily gain was 2.93 pounds. First for Club Carcass Steer Rate of Gain was Montana Millar with “Jedi”. Brett Beechinor and Miriam DenOudsten also had carcass projects. Morgan Anderson and Miriam DenOudsten showed the Group of Five and we won Overall Reserve Grand Champion! Way to go! Showing their steers for this group was Alyssa Wilson, Kevin Wilson, Kolton Hueppelsheuser, Amanda Anderson and Brett Beechinor showing Morgan Anderson’s steer. Also showing their steers on show day was Peter and Thomas Mueller. The theme for the show this year was “4-H Goes Green”. Each of the four clubs puts up a display near their stall area reflecting the theme. Clubs are judged in the Inter-Club Stall Competition on their display, how clean they keep the stall area, and how friendly and interactive the members are towards visitors/potential buyers! This year our club won this Stall Competition! Good job my fellow peeps! Former members from our club played an active role at the show and sale. Cali Seater was the MC for both the Female and Steer Show. Kyle Brink was the Ringman for the Female Show and sister Ashley Brink was the Ringman for the Steer Show. The show was followed by an awesome supper and then awards were presented. Thank-you once again to all those who support the show and to the faithful buyers for a great sale! Fellow members and our Club leaders Allan Wilson and Darryl Friesen felt this year’s show and sale was a successful one! The Charity Steer raffle raised $4,700.00 for the Lacombe Ambulance Service and was won by a lady from Ponoka. On June 13 we will be having our wind-up supper and awards night. Then in August we’ll be flipping flapjacks for a hearty breakfast parade morning of the Bentley Fair Days, and decorate a float for the parade. Hope to see you there!
