Several members of the Bluffton 4-H Club had a productive outing on Feb. 7 when they competed in a public speaking competition featuring 30 participants. Each club member was required to prepare and deliver a speech on a variety of topics, followed by an impromptu address. Winners were: Emily Steeves, who placed first in the senior competition; Michelle Von Gunten, senior second place; Clint Steeves, intermediate first place; Heidi Trenson, intermediate second place; Leah Trenson, junior first place; and Ben Trenson, junior second place. The winners advance to the zone competition Feb. 21 at the Hoadley Hall. The speakers would also like to acknowledge for their time and advice: Phil Hambly, Erin Steeves, Martha Krause, Kathy Richards, Jim Kinninburg, Friso Beeren, Jay Cotell, Fred Richards and Lysbeth Peter.
