Sherilyn Semenyna is the newest member of the faculty of the Rimbey Christian School, teaching Grades 8 and 9.
Raised in Rimbey, Semenyna attended her first year of university in San Diego, Cal., before returning to Alberta where she spent the next two years at Red Deer College, followed by a three-year stint at the University of Alberta. She also spent a summer in Africa where she attended a global citizen course as well as five months studying French in Quebec.
“I’m a phys. ed. major and a French minor, so basically my goal is to have kids doing whatever I’m teaching and enjoying it and trying it, and even if they’re not the best, to do their best at it,” Semenyna said of her teaching philosophy. “So that’s really my goal; to get them enjoying it and doing their best, even if they’re not the best.”
Rimbey Christian School is her first posting, a position she enjoys thoroughly.
“I really like it. The school is awesome and the teachers are amazing and so supportive and encouraging. I have a very small class with only 14 students, so that’s very nice for my first year and they’re wonderful kids.”
