Since his retirement six years ago, Dale Rangen has been enjoying his time giving back to the Rimbey community.

Rangen has been a member of the Blindman Valley Lions Club for about six years and has been volunteering at Central Alberta Raceways for about five years.

“I really enjoy it,” he said of his time volunteering. “The Lions Club is a good organization and we give back to the community, so it’s a win-win. And with the racetrack, I get the best seat in the house.”

Rangen said it’s a good feeling to use your time to help fix up and beautify a space. “You leave with a pretty good feeling in your heart,” he explained. “I care about where I live. We moved here 12 years ago and it’s a great community and to be involved is a good feeling.”

Rangen said he was shocked when he found out he had been nominated as a Community Hero.

“I’ll keep doing what I’m doing and having fun,” he said of the future.
