Drop-In Doings: greater Edmonton seniors stop by for a visit

All too soon and it’s fall again, but it’s also time for starting up all the ‘doin’s’ at our Drop-In Centre. The end of August was busy as we hosted the Horticultural Show. It was terrific. In spite of hail and windy, dry weather, we all managed to find a few flowers and veggies.

On Aug. 20 the Seniors Association of Greater Edmonton toured central Alberta and lunched at our Drop-In. A reunion supper and a couple of weddings finished off bookings for August.

Until further notice there will be no Saturday and Sunday bingos in Ponoka. We have a couple of extras booked and they are Sept. 1 and 30.

Our Board resumes its monthly meetings on Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. – note time.

Jammers dances start again on Tuesday, Sept. 2 for another season of great fun and entertainment.

Tuesday, Sept. 9 is going to be a big day at the Drop-In. Come by at 9:45 a.m. and listen and participate as our two nurses from Red Deer lead us in a Health and Wellness Session entitled, Prescription Management. These sessions are simply great but then stay and enjoy a free lunch with us. Yes, I said free! It’ll be something on or with a bun and a dessert. Then at 1 p.m., we will start sign-ups for the Tuesday and Wednesday floor curling leagues and finish off with coffee and squares.

. Come on guys (and gals) put your names down and let’s get something rolling. Maybe Monday or Thursday mornings would suit everyone better, or even both.

Looking ahead, in October we have an Adult Learning Course on Oct. 16th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., so watch for it.

On November 29th we will be hosting the local non-profit organization bazaar.

We have a lot of bookings, birthday parties, meals, etc. coming up including a Flag Whist Tournament, which is planned for Oct. 9th.

Everyone come out and see what’s going on at the Drop-In. Remember there is Crib every Monday at 1:30 p.m.; ‘500’ on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.; Whist on Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. and I hope our Bridge Club is ready to start up again on Friday afternoons.

Give me a call at 843-6498 and I’ll steer you in the right direction.

Also, remember the Health and Wellness Session, the lunch and the sign-up day for floor curling. You can join the Drop-In free for the rest of the year. Yearly membership fees of $10 are due in January 2009.
