Spring is finally here and we are ready to enjoy it. Life at the Drop-In has slowed down somewhat.

We are looking forward to Senior’s Week which is celebrated from June 2 to 8 in Alberta.

Wednesday, June 4 will be our big day at the Drop-In. Together with FCSS; we are hosting a day of fun starting at 8:00 a.m. with a free pancake breakfast until about noon. There will also be entertainment, games and contests etc.

You crib; whist and ‘500’ card sharks can show us your best and win a prize, (but not necessarily for highest marks). Maybe you’ll win a prize at old-fashioned Bingo!

All of this will be on going so come and go as you wish.

From noon until 2 p.m. the FCSS will serve their special Seniors Cake and the Drop-In Centre will supply strawberries and ice cream.

We have some musical entertainment lined up and the Red Hatters have a show for us at 1:00 p.m.

This occasion honours all seniors and you do not have to be a member. Seniors are 55-plus.

Come and see the Drop-In Centre. Tour the (finally) finished basement, ride the elevator and see what’s going on.

FCSS is a co-host with us and will be presenting information on all of their programs.

As well, any donations made to us will be presented to FCSS for their Volunteer Services Program.

I am very honoured to inform you all that I am receiving a 2008 Minister’s Seniors Service Award. The award will be presented on June 4 at a dinner ceremony in Edmonton.

I want to thank all the people who have supported me these past four years during the planning, building and maintaining of our Drop-In Centre, our members, the community as a whole as well as all the help from the surrounding areas.

It has been a fulfilling time for me and I honestly love what I do. But a strong board stood beside me through it all as well as dedicated members.

A special thanks to Alice Pecketts who believed in what we could accomplish and nominated me for the award. Alice and Russ will join Fred and myself for the dinner as my guests. Thank you everyone.
