Fair sewing entries up

Entries in the sewing and stitchery section of the Bentley Fair bench exhibits were up slightly from last year

Entries in the sewing and stitchery section of the Bentley Fair bench exhibits were up slightly from last year, according to convener Betty Kubista and co-convener Carol Landon.

There were around 55 entries and they included six juniors who entered exhibits.

The judge this year was Gail Booth from Rimbey.

Judges Choice Awards were Thomas Mueller for his stuffed penguin in the junior category, Susanne Mueller’s needlepoint pictures set for adult, and Carol Landon’s hand-made quilt in the senior division.

Major prize winners were: adult grand aggregate (donated by Bill Brown from Crop Production Services) to Penny Seiling from Bentley with points earned on her 10 entries; junior prize plaque (donated by Servus Credit Union) to Luke Pike for his two entries, senior prize plaque (donated by Servus Credit Union) by Ruth Anderson with her seven entries.

Best quilt of show (donated by Jessie Palmer) was earned by Carol Landon’s hand quilted “Dresden Plate” quilt.

Kay Bearchell from Bentley received best sewing entry donated by Albert and Jean Goldade with her men’s golf shirt.

Inga Schneider from Bentley with her crocheted afghan earned best crochet entry donated by Bev Brandon.

Marion Han from Bentley was named the best overall super senior (age over 80 years) with her baby quilt and quilted tablecloth.

Both Betty Kubista and Carol Landon feel it is time for someone else to take a turn at convening the sewing section and want to thank all the great donors and helpers they have had over the past five years.
