Gospel Music in the Park

The sun shone and the people gathered from Edmonton in the north to Sylvan Lake and Innisfail in the south as well as many from Rimbey and area to hear the wonderful sound of gospel music in many different forms.

The sun shone and the people gathered from Edmonton in the north to Sylvan Lake and Innisfail in the south as well as many from Rimbey and area to hear the wonderful sound of gospel music in many different forms.

People of all ages took part from a four-year old on the drums to enthusiastic and gifted teenagers on piano, violin, cello and superb soloists to adults rhythmically entertaining with guitars, saxophone and piano. To round out the program, the gathering heard Joshua Ridge with their energetic Bluegrass gospel music.

The audience also had a chance to participate with a number of sing-along gospel pieces led most graciously and capably by Florence Stemo accompanied by Corine Scheetz on the piano.

A freewill offering was taken and after the cost of the Pavilion, $640.90 was forwarded to the Rimbey School Lunch Program for the needy. Many thanks to Joshua Ridge for providing the sound system, to all the organizers and to many others who helped make the event the wonderful success that it was. The prelude and postlude music provided by Vivian Sallows was also very enjoyable.

Following a meeting of the organizational committee on August 13, 2008, it was decided to stay with the second Sunday in August for this event, due mostly to the fact that we have had good weather for the past nine years. The next Gospel Music in the Park will be held on august 9, 2009.
