Help provided to seniors for income tax returns

Income tax time is coming up and for some seniors in the community the forms needed to be filled out

Income tax time is coming up and for some seniors in the community the forms needed to be filled out to complete the sometimes dreaded task can be baffling and frustrating.

To this end, Rimbey Family and Community Support Services has set up a program to help seniors complete their income tax forms and file them in a timely and efficient manner.

Under the direction of Cathy Albach, volunteers will be trained to help seniors complete their income tax forms.

FCSS executive director Peggy Makofka said the program is a win/win situation.

“We do around 100 returns a year,” she said. “They (seniors) have to live in the Rimbey area and have a middle to low income.”

She said there are many residents in the area who are able to complete the forms with minimal training.

“There are lots of people with those skills in the Rimbey area.”

Anyone who wishes to volunteer for the program or wishes to have their income tax completed when they have received the necessary government documents may contact the FCSS office at 403-843-2030.
