Join in the celebration of Seniors’ Week in Rimbey

TREENA MIELKE/Rimbey Review

Seniors will have a chance to kick up their heels, enjoy some good food and simply hang out with their friends as they participate in activities planned for Seniors’ Week in Rimbey.

Doreen Glanfield, president of the Rimbey Drop-In Centre said burger night is happening at the drop-in tonight (June 7) at 4:30 p.m. with a dance to follow.

She stressed that the meal, which is to include burgers, beans, a salad and dessert and the dance with music supplied by The Jammers, is open to everyone.

“People seem to think it is just seniors, but it isn’t. It is open to everyone, anyone who wants to come.”

Seniors Week celebrations will continue Wednesday afternoon with square dancers performing at the Drop In Centre beginning at 1:30 p.m. Pie and coffee will be served.

The event is supported by the Rimbey & District Drop-In Centre, Rimbey Family and Community Support Services, Rimoka Housing and Ponoka County

“It is a social event and everyone is welcome to stop by,” said Lindell Ryan, volunteer centre manager.

Seniors Week, June 6 to 12, recognizes Alberta’s seniors.

“Seniors continue to be an integral part of our communities, as mentors, volunteers and leaders. We respect their wisdom and knowledge and their sharing of life experiences,” said Mary Anne Jablonski, minister of seniors and community supports. “It’s only fitting that we set aside one week a year to officially acknowledge the richness seniors add to the lives of all Albertans.”

There will be a number of events to celebrate seniors during seniors’ week. For a list of these events visit the Alberta Seniors and Community Supports website at www.seniors.alberta.ca
