Wolf Creek Public Schools’ graciously accepted a generous donation of $17,500 from Keyera Energy. The donation is designed towards the installation of strobe light devices on all buses in the transportation fleet.

In light of the tragic bus accident that claimed the life of a Rimbey student and seriously injured another on April 9, 2008, employees of Keyera Energy, Rimbey Gas Plant, were determined to show their business’ community support for safety by initiating a donation towards school bus safety.

“Safety is our number one propriety at Keyera both on and off the job,” said Bob Morrish, Director of Operations at the Rimbey Gas Plant. “Our community and one of our own employees were shaken by this accident and we are pleased to join Wolf Creek Public Schools in this important project.”

Logistic Coordinator Kathy Pfau suggested Keyera Energy look at the concept of installing strobe lights on each bus in the transportation fleet. The strobe lights are intended to be a warning device to other vehicles by blasting intense beams of light into the sky every few seconds, whether the bus is moving or stopped.

“We are most pleased to be able to partner with Keyera Energy in this very worthwhile project.” noted Wolf Creek Public Schools’ Board Chair, Bob Huff. “The installation of strobe lights on our buses has been a common suggestion heard from members of the community since the accident occurred. We are pleased that a community minded organization like Keyera Energy has seen fit to help fulfill this suggestion on behalf of the community.”

“Safety is everybody’s business,” Morrish said adding he hopes others will see this tragedy as an opportunity to assist in keeping our children safe.
