Ladies enjoy Night Out Christmas and entertainment

The third annual Bentley Ladies Night Out Christmas was held recently in the Bentley Community Church with more than 80 ladies attending, not counting the volunteers. Once again it was a relaxing evening of fine dining and uplifting entertainment.

One of the chief organizers, Sandra Smyth, indicated that this year, despite raising the price of tickets, the event did not quite break even due to lack of ticket sales. The breakeven point was estimated to be 90. The Bentley Community Church will make up the shortfall.

This year’s theme was Christmas Balls and the decor included hurricane lamps set on tables with Christmas ball decorations made from wrapping paper hanging from the ceiling, a burning fireplace, and across the front of the hall poinsettias backed with lighted trees.

The Cross-Eyed Giraffe Cafe and Catering provided the meal.

Entertainment for this year was the Joyful Melody Trio from Barrhead, a pastor’s wife and two farmer’s daughters, a group that was formed in October of 2002. The entertainers used the fireplace at the north end of the hall as their backdrop. Their inspirational presentation included music and singing with a southern gospel flavor and narrative. The Joyful Melody Trio appears at many charitable events, various churches, cowboy churches, seniors’ functions, and they give presentations to the female inmates at the Fort Saskatchewan correctional Institution.

They have two CDs out, one from 2006 and one done in 2008, and have a new one slated to be released early in 2011.

The audience joined in the singing of some Christmas carols throughout the evening and each lady was presented with a rose at the close of the two-hour program.

Organizers of the event are a collective group of like-minded community ladies who indicate they enjoy planning and organizing the event. They plan to host a similar event next year.
