Following the approval of a humanitarian trip to Mexico by students at the Rimbey Jr./Sr. High School by the Board of Trustees of the Wolf Creek Public Schools during their February 17 meeting, all systems are go and the students will be boarding a bus for the long road trip on Thursday, March 26.

“A proposal by Rimbey Jr./Sr. High School to host a filed trip to Mexico in the spring of 2009 was approved by the Board at its February meeting,” read a statement issued by the Board. “While primarily focusing on educational issues, the field trip also contains a uniquely humanitarian component that will see the students assisting in the building of four homes for underprivileged families.”

Following the departure from Rimbey, the eight students involved along with their chaperones, will travel to Lacombe where they’ll be joined by more students bringing the total to 60 students in all.

The group is expected to arrive in Mexico the following Saturday and will arrive back in the community on Sunday, April 5.

In addition to assisting in the building of the new homes, the local students will also be bringing along well over 50 pairs of shoes that were collected throughout the community in a campaign spearheaded by student Morgan Properzi earlier this year to be distributed to the less-fortunate.
