A young lady had a chance to learn more about Bentley’s history when she took on the job of summer hostess at the museum.

Lindsey Heagy, who just graduated from Bentley School, spent most of her summer at the Bentley Museum, which was open Wednesday through Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Heagy, who obtained all her schooling in Bentley, explained she applied, had an interview, and landed the summer job.

Her job included watching and escorting visitors and “making sure people don’t take anything. People are always stopping in.”

“I like going through all the books. (During the quiet times) I like just browsing (around the museum),” she stated. “I like small towns - not the big city. And I like the people (board executive) I am working for. Some of them drop by quite regularly.”

One of the most interesting visitors was a person who said her grandfather had built the house the museum is in.

Heagy estimated about five people dropped in per day but on one busy day there were 16 visitors.

Admittedly, she said there is some lawn mowing to do.

Her plans may include going into the hospitality/tourism trade at Red Deer College after a year off.

For the last three weeks, until after the September long weekend, sister Kelsee Farnham took over the duties while Lindsey went east on a holiday.

The museum will now be open for special occasions and upon pre-arranged appointment by calling one of the executive.

Work bees by volunteers will continue on most Wednesday mornings and people can drop by.

Work also continues in the museum’s new building in readiness for a move of artifacts/displays into it.
