The hallowed halls of learning at Rimbey Junior/Senior High School are once again filled with the clamour of young voices, as students begin another year of learning.

School began on Sept. 4 with a pancake breakfast put on by staff for the students.

Principal Tim Lekas said student numbers, which usually hover around 370, seem to be up slightly this year for the school that houses grades 7 to 12.

New faces on the teaching staff are Michael Leung, who will teach math to junior and senior high students, and French and language arts teacher Robyn MacEachern, who will also teach both junior and senior high school.

Lekas said tutorials will be introduced this year to help students who face academic challenges in a certain area.

Tutorials, which will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 30 minutes, will be offered in a variety of subjects including math, essay writing and computer labs.

“Some students will be assigned to a tutorial, other students may choose to take one,” he said. “We always want to keep trying new things to help students become more successful in their studies.”

The library and computer lab will be open to accommodate students taking advantage of tutorials, he said.

Rimbey Elementary School

School’s back in at Rimbey Elementary, and teachers and students are slowly settling into a new year of learning.

Vice-principal Kathleen Terry said the school welcomes one new teacher on board this year.

Melissa Hambly will job share Grade 6 with Tia Grahn.

Grahn is the school’s representative for the Alberta Initiative for School Improvement program, (an initiative to meet government’s mandate in education).

Rimbey Elementary is a kindergarten to Grade 6 school with approximately 360 students.

Bluffton School

Bluffton School is moving ahead into the new school year with a continued focus on technology, and students are encouraged to bring personally used devices to school to be used for educational purposes, said principal Nolan Kraus.

He said the school, with approximately 140 kindergarten to Grade 9 students, provides an excellent learning environment.

An open house and barbecue will be held at the school Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m.
