Old Timer’s to meet for annual reunion

While the annual Rimbey Rodeo, and 100 Foot Shoot-Out scheduled for later this summer may be the more high-profile events that bring visitors to the community, there’s plenty of others including the annual Rimbey and District Old Timer’s Reunion that will be held at the end of this at the Community Centre.

Formed in 1955 during Alberta’s Golden Jubilee, the Old Timer’s Association has maintained its goal over the years of allowing people to continue on with their strong ties with others from the area and to provide an annual event for them to meet.

“My sister was going to it and I kind of got involved with it because she didn’t drive anymore and I was taking her to the meetings,” said member Marion Repas of how she got involved. “Then when the lady that was doing the advertising passed away very suddenly, and they needed somebody to do the ads and they sort of dumped it on me.”

With local entertainment and a lunch provided, the day-long gathering will leave those in attendance with plenty of time for visiting and rekindling old memories and will also feature an introduction of students who graduated from area high schools in 1959.

“People used to come from all over the continent – from eastern Canada, from California – a long ways off,” Repas said. “Some people came for just one day or for the weekend, and meet old friends. There’s also a class reunion for the graduating class from 50 years ago.”
