Open house for trail map comments

Rimbey and district residents are invited to provide feedback on a new map designed to help trail users enjoy the wide-range of recreational and tourism opportunities in the Grande Alberta South region southwest of Edmonton.

The map highlights approved motorized, non-motorized and mixed-use trails in the region. It covers an area reaching from Highway 2 to the Rocky Mountains — from Hinton to Edmonton in the north, to Rocky Mountain House to Rimbey in the south.

An open house is scheduled in Rimbey from 3 to 7 p.m. March 3 at the Best Western Rimstone Ridge.

The Grande Alberta South trails map is the third in a provincial project highlighting regional recreational trails in Alberta. The final map will be printed in the spring and will be available at no charge.

The provincial trail mapping project is a partnership between Alberta TrailNet Society, the Alberta government, the Alberta Off-Highway Vehicle Association and the Alberta Snowmobile Association, with assistance from tourism associations, communities, businesses and trail stakeholder groups.

The trail maps highlight recreational and tourism opportunities, and direct visitors and recreational users to trails that support their chosen activity. These maps are intended to help maximize and encourage recreation on Alberta’s trails in a responsible and sustainable way.
