For the past 96 years the Rimbey and District Horticultural Group has sponsored our annual horticulture show.

This year it was held on Aug. 17 and 18 at the Drop-in Centre.

Fruits, vegetables, baking, preserves, miscellaneous crafts, thread arts and photography were all part of this year’s show.

Rimbey and area has many talented seniors, adults, children and youths who participate each year.

Due to the hail, more than once in our area, along with the heavy rains and not a lot of sun because of the smoke, we were limited to the number of participants.

It’s different every year with the flowers and vegetables. Last year, an over-abundance and this year, some vegetables were done, some not finished yet and most flowers were already finished as well!

I’ve noticed over the past 11 years that I’ve participated, there are no two years the same when it comes to exhibits.

The preserves and photos were the main attraction this year.

The best photo was won by Joyce Skeels. The best baking went to Diana Pearman for her two-tiered decorated cake. Best preserves by Joy Bruca, which she also won the best in collections and for overall points in the show, which was 200 points. Way to go Joy!

The best vegetable was won by Marg Ramsey, the best fruit by Kathy Sarson with her sugar baby watermelon. The best cut flower was by a four year old, our youngest exhibitor, Mackenzi Schlotter and the best flower arrangement by Donna Heilemann.

Thread arts was won by Sheila Bliss. Miscellaneous crafts was won by our oldest competitor Rueben Giebelhaus at 95 years old. Good for you Rueben.

The best in show for 10 to 12 years old went to Jayden Heilemann and for 13 to 17 years old to Logan Fontana. The most points in the show for Seniors: Joyce Skeels; Adult, Joy Bruca; four to six years, Parker Schlotter; 10 to 12 years, Jayden Heilemann; 13 to 17 years, Garren Skeels.

A special thanks goes out to all the donours for making our show possible each year. Your contributions provide awards for all of our winning entries and are greatly appreciated.
