Members of the community have the opportunity to eat some delicious and fresh fruit this year in the community gardens.
"The fruit trees are for the community. You don't need to have a garden down there to pick the fruit. There's raspberries, cherries, saskatoons, currants and strawberries," said Rimbey Town Councillor Gayle Rondeel, who helps take care of the gardens with Jay Newsham.
She added there are also two beds at the end that are for the community to enjoy.
"One is strawberries and one is celery, so anybody can just help themselves respectfully."
There are 20 planter boxes in total, and nine of them were replaced with metal, more sturdier ones this year.
Although there are no plans to expand the gardens, Rondeel said they would like to get a picnic table and gazebo eventually.
"We've also discussed we're not going to replace that back row of beds because we removed them because the cherries and raspberries are always growing up into them, so we thought we might take that back row and plant a couple of apple trees."
In May the boxes got replaced just in time for the gardening season.
"We got donations from the Town, from Rimbey Recreation, from Rimbey FCSS, from the Farmers' Market and from Ed's Auto Rescue," said Rondeel.
She added that they found them online and have been looking for metal boxes for a couple of years now.
"They are made out of the steel that they use in high rises for forms for the concrete, so they are really sturdy. We got them from a guy in Salmon Arm."
Rondeel said they will be replacing another box in the fall, along with eventually replacing the rest of the wooden ones.
