Prior to Remember Day each year, students in the Rimbey Elementary and Junior/Senior High Schools prepare for services within the schools and community to remember with honour the sacrifice made in past years. Students and teachers of the Rimbey schools put their thoughts together to enter a nationwide contest for poems, poetry and posters sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion.

Awards are given locally to students in the elementary and junior and senior high schools who express their thoughts and ideas in one of those categories. This year was no exception and again our students have placed well in their area region and in the district region. Eleven awards, five first-place winners and six second-places, were given to Rimbey students. The area of competition in which the students are competing is all of central Alberta. The first-place winners are also judged for a provincial award. In past years, Rimbey students have received provincial awards.

Congratulations to the students and teachers who have worked hard and shown their knowledge in remembering veterans who fought and gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can live in a country without fear.
